Found yourself out of work for the first time in a long time? We’ve launched the #GetHired Skills Toolkit as a simple and actionable step by step guide to secure your next role. Access the full kit here.
“Network: a group or system of interconnected people or things.”
When we talk about your ‘network’ we mean a community of people you’re connected with. And not just online. Your network is made up of the people around you; your family, friends, ex-colleagues, gym buddies, the people you went to school with or volunteered alongside. These people are valuable connections who may be able to help you along the way so don’t be afraid to ask.
Our access to online communities has given us an opportunity to expand that network exponentially. Digital communities are the same, allowing you to ‘find your tribe’ and meet people in positions you may never have had the opportunity to access before.
As a professional networking site intended for this exact purpose, LinkedIn is the perfect place to do this. And the same message applies here as in real life networks; don’t be afraid to reach out.
Whether it’s requesting people share your profile, asking for advice about what tools and resources to use, more often than not LinkedIn’s ‘hive mind’ will be more than willing to help. Be active in your network, comment and engage on peoples posts, start conversations, share your opinion and take part in discussions.
You never know who’s feed your profile will crop up on. A second or third degree connection could lead to your next job opportunity!
